Das Wesentliche an Audio Arts sieht der britische Künstler William Furlong in der Funktion, der Kunst Raum zu geben. Ein Raum, in dem auch der kritische Diskurs darüber nicht fehlen darf:

"Audio Arts ist wichtig als Übermittler eines anderen Bewußtseins, des Gefühls für Kunst im Raum oder des Gefühls für den Raum als Behältnis.....; Audio Arts nutzt mehr als nur die visuelle Aufnahme. Der Ton verlegt sich auf den Raum" (K. Blakker).

William Furlong, seit 1973 Herausgeber des Audio-Arts-Magazine, präsentiert Kunstradio-Hörern eine Radioarbeit, dessen Basismaterial aus aktuellen Tonaufzeichnungen besteht. Zentrales Thema dieser Arbeit ist die Frage der Identität, des Ortes ("Location"), mit der diese verbunden ist. Klangelemente, die visuell erfaßbare Assoziationen beim Hörer hervorrufen, geben Aufschluß darüber, woran sich Identität festmachen läßt und wo ihre Grenzen verlaufen: es ist die Sprache, der Humor, das Umfeld.

Identity & Location: Walls of Sound ist der radiophone, nach Österreich transferierte Part einer Audio-Arts-Ausstellung, die Furlong parallel dazu in London präsentiert und betreut.

The British artist William Furlong feels that the essential element of audio art can be found in the function of giving art space. A space in which a critical discussion of such may not be absent:

"Audio art is important as a way of transmitting a different consciousness, of a feel for art in space or a feel for space as a receptacle...; Audio art uses more than just visual perception. Sound is transferred to the space itself." (K. Blakker)

William Furlong, publisher of Audio-Arts-Magazine since 1973, presents our listeners with a radio piece the basis of which are actual sound recordings. The central topic of the work is the question of identity, of location, with which this is associated. Sound elements which stimulate visually perceptible associations in the listeners give an indication of what identity is attached to and where its limits are: it is language, humor and the environment.

Identity & Location: Walls of Sound was the part of an audio art exhibition which was transferred to Austria. William Furlong presented and managed the other parts of the exhibition parallel with this in London.
