In February 2002 fundamental radio (August Black & Markus Seidl) made a trip to Tasmania to the Solar
Circuit Festival (http://www.solarcircuit.org). As a part of the festival all participating artists
spent 10 days on a devote convict island without electricity. The swarm of 30 international media
artists rose basic issues of communication: how do you communicate, which language do you choose,
which basic set of words is needed to understand eachother? They finally solved these questions
by developing a new, mutual language named "oeish" based on various sound and speech recordings
along the way. These were presented as a one-hour live radio event from the Tasmanian National
Museum of Arts in Hobart

"oeish" beigetragen hatten, ausgestrahlt

Based upon Stefan Heidenreich's text "Plattenspieler" who, in his analysis of the musical instrument as
an interface between a physical and a technical component, both defined by time and motion components,
also refers to the record player as a musical instrument, Ushi Reiter and Maex Decker make an attempt
to explain the systematics resp. the method of "non-synchronity" of single sound machines which do not
follow any programmatic principle. |

"Ein Musikinstrument verschaltet Finger und Ohren. Als Schnittstelle koppelt es zwei Regelkreise.
Der menschliche läuft zwischen Ohren und Körperbewegungen. Der technische, also das Instrument,
zwischen Material und Klang. An den beiden Schnittstellen kommt Zeit ins Spiel. Bewegungen
manipulieren Material. Ohren hören Klänge." ( Stefan Heidenreich in "Plattenspieler") |
