Im Rahmen des von Gertrude Moser-Wagner kuratierten Kunstprojekts "TASTE 0-20" (www.praterstrasse.com/taste0-20.html), das von März bis Juni unterschiedliche künstlerische Interventionen in der Praterstrasse im zweiten Wiener Gemeindebezirk ermöglicht, gestalten die Grazer Medienkünstlerinnen Veronika Dreier, Doris Jauk-Hinz und Eva Ursprung vom Kunstverein W.A.S. (Womyn's Art Support) (http://mur.at/was) gemeinsam mit dem W.A.S. Support Team Vienna die Danube Streaming Show.

Der Schleppkahn "Josef", der am Donaukanal bei der Schwedenbrücke Sonntag mittags anlegen wird, dient den Künstlerinnen als Bühne für Soundperformances und Videoinstallationen, aber auch als akustischer Körper und Sender/Empfänger für die live-Radiosendung.

Tagsüber organisiert W.A.S. zwei Rundfahrten (um 12.00 und 15.30 Uhr), wo die Schiffspassagiere akustische Mikropieces und Videoarbeiten zum Thema Donau, Schiffahrt u.ä. hören und sehen können während die Künstlerinnen Sounds sammeln. Die akustischen Quellen sind unterschiedliche Umgebungssounds - der Schlepper selbst, dessen Motorensummen, Wasser, die Passagiere, aber auch Unterwassersounds, Spieldosen, die beim Öffnen den Donauwalzer und andere akustische Schätze spielen, aufgezeichnete Streaming-Beiträge einer virtuellen Donaureise von Partnerinstitutionen aus Bratislava, Budapest, Belgrad und Sophia etc.
Diese Sounds, Klänge, Geräusche, Wasserscapes fliessen dann in die abendliche Performance (um 21 Uhr) ein - teils roh zugespielt, teils live gemixt. Beim "Sound-Fischen" werden ausserdem die bei den nachmittäglichen Rundfahrten gecatchten Geräusche mittels Unterwasserlautprechern in den Donaukanal gespielt; die Künstlerinnen/Anglerinnen fischen diese nun mit dem "Gesang" und dem Brodeln des Donaustroms vermischten Klänge mit Unterwassermikros und nutzen sie als Teil der Performance. Für die Kunstradio-Sendung wird wiederum die Gesamtsumme dieses Soundscapes - ein akustischer Tagesaufenthalt an der Donau zu Wasser und an Land mit vielfältigen künstlerischen Interventionen - verwendet, von Reni Hofmüller neu gemixt und live on air gesendet. In Graz wird Radio Helsinki (http://helsinki.mur.at/ ) zeitgleich diesen Soundstream senden.

Die Veranstaltung in Wien ist der Auftakt einer realen Donaureise, die die W.A.S.-Akteurinnen über Zwischenstationen in Bratislava, Budapest, Novi Sad und Belgrad ans Schwarze Meer führen wird. In den einzelnen Anlegeorten werden sie Künstlerinnen und Künstler treffen und in einen kommunikativen-künstlerischen Austausch treten. Diese KünstlerInnen sind eingeladen, Beiträge für den Danube Sound-Stream zu produzieren.

Ziel dieser künstlerischen Arbeit ist es, den seit den NATO-Bombardierungen im Jahr 1999 unterbrochenen Fluß an Kommunikation und Austausch entlang der Donau, die jahrhundertelang als Bindeglied zwischen West und Ost, zwischen unterschiedlichen Kulturen und politischen Systemen fungierte, mithilfe neuer elektronischer Kommunikationstechniken, aber auch durch das Zusammentreffen und -arbeiten mit KünstlerInnen entlang dieses Weges in Gang zu bringen und wieder aufleben zu lassen.

Within the framework of the art project "TASTE 0-20" (www.praterstrasse.com/taste0-20.html) curated by Gertrude Moser-Wagner which between March and June brings together various artistic interventions along the Praterstrasse in Vienna's second district, the media artists Veronika Dreier, Doris Jauk-Hinz and Eva Ursprung from Graz who form the Kunstverein W.A.S. (Womyn's Art Support) (http://mur.at/was) will present The Danube Streaming Show together with the W.A.S. Support Team Vienna.

The tugboat "Josef" which will land on the Danube canal at the Schwedenbrücke at midday on Sunday will serve as stage for the artists' sound performances and video installations, but also as an acoustic body and sender/receiver for the live radio programme.

During the day, W.A.S. will arrange two roundtrips (at 12.00 and 3.30 p.m.) where the passengers can hear and see acoustic micropieces and video works dealing with the Danube, shipping a.o. whilst the artists collect sounds. The acoustic sources are a range of surrounding sounds - the tugboat itself and the humming of its motor, the water, passengers, but also underwater sounds, music boxes which play the Blue Danube Waltz when opening them and other acoustic treasures, recorded streaming contributions from a virtual trip along the Danube from partner institutions in Bratislava, Belgrade, and Novi Sad etc.
These sounds, tones, noises, waterscapes are later on entered into the evening performance (9.00 p.m.) - partly the original sounds are played, others are mixed on spot. Besides within the "Sound-Fishing" performance/intervention, the sounds collected during the afternoon roundtrips will be played into the Danube with underwater loudspeakers; the artists/anglers then "fish" for these sounds - now mixed with the "singing" and bubbling of the Danube stream - with underwater micros and use them for the performance. Reni Hofmüller will use the total of sounds summoned in this soundscape - an acoustic sojourn on the Danube, at sea and ashore, with manifold artistic interventions - to make a new mix for the Kunstradio programme which will be sent on air live. In Graz, Radio Helsinki (http://helsinki.mur.at/ ) will send this soundstream simultaneously.

This event in Vienna is the start of a real trip down the Danube which will take the W.A.S. protagonists via interstations in Bratislava, Budapest, Novi Sad, and Belgrade to the Black Sea. In the different landing places, they will meet artists and set up a communicative and artistic exchange. These artists are invited to contribute pieces to the Danube Sound-Stream.

An aim of this artistic project is, by means of new electronic communication technologies and by meeting and working with local artists, to revive the flow of communication and exchange along the Danube which, for centuries, connected East and West and functioned as a link between different cultures and political systems, but since the Nato bombardments in 1999, is disrupt.
