"The Sahara, the largest coherent desert area of the world has attracted expedition travellers for centuries. Its vastness, the variety of forms and colours, are besides the prospect of making existential experiences, the reason for the persistent attraction ..."

The last radiophonic journey within the "Radio Roadmovie"-series curated by Matt Smith is a piece produced in 1990 that leads the listeners into the desert.
Fritz Grohs' radiophonic cartography "Desert Drive" is about lost dreams, a desire for the unexplored, about cynicism and strategies of elusion. The desert's fauna is ruled by grassroots' democracy, environmental protection is self-regulating. "Lonely wanderer in the desert of existence - who are you? How are you? - I'm no longer interested in all this. One can easily get lost in the sand of eternity." the artist commented.

"Whisky?" he asked. As far as one can see: Sand, nothing but sand.
"A hand is an oasis. The way out is to permutate."

(Fritz Grohs, 1990)
