A CASSETTE OF THIS PROGRAM CAN BE ORDERED FROM THE "ORF TONBANDDIENST"

The algorithmic jukebox is a sound generator that transforms consumer culture into acoustic consumption of culture. Any given barcode can be scanned and translated into sound material with a software developed especially for this purpose. The code determines form and characteristics of a sinus wave: sound, tone colour, length, etc.

The score of the sound piece is the ORF radio house itself. Material from the archive, such as CDs, can be listened to as it has never been heard before. The instrument reacts on repetitions with increasing detuning, algorithms pervade the musical harmony. In Algorithmic Jukebox mass products and consumer culture fuse with chaos theory and butterfly effect.
