“Membran” by Seppo Gründler, Josef Klammer and Albert Pall is the second in a live performance series called e-Scape. Initiated by the Ars Acustica group of the European Broadcasting Union, the first event took place in Brussels in October 2007 at the Radiophonic Festival.

Project description:

This live concert will vibrate from the entering membrane of the microphone up to the membrane of the radio.

Josef Klammer: percussions, various membranes, electronics, concept
Seppo Gründler: guitar, oscillating membrane, electronics, concept
Albert Pall: Text fragments, voice
Claudia Körbler: Translation, voice

Membranes are filters – from the Melitta coffee filter (a famous coffee-filter brand across the European hemisphere) to the cell – just letting through what is supposed to be filtered.

“Membrane” deals with the term itself, which enables listening to the radio.

Microphone membrane > Loud speaker membrane > Drumhead (Ear)

The Membrane describes the way of the “big 3 P’s” through scientific and artistic approaches: Physics – Physiology – Psychology

Furthermore the Membrane deals with the oscillating membrane which is responsible for the emergence of sounds – noises and sounds that lead to music.

Membrane with the body’s own and the body’s external membrane: phrenic and drumhead, cell membrane and respectively pasteboard rattle, banjo, drumheads (describing a part of the drum), suction cups, et cetera.

The Membrane also highlights the acoustical borders of the radiophinistical transfer as well as the human sense of hearing.

The Membrane originates out of the membrane of you radio, the loudspeaker.
