Radio Ö1 presents a two-months focus on Africa, in regards to the upcoming footbal world cup in South Africa. Kunstradio presents a radio art piece by the South African artist James Webb, who is a pioneer of radio art in his country and in 2002 participated in the network project Radiotopia. Currently, Webb is on a residency in Bergen, Norway, where he is preparing a city specific version of his sound installation “Prayer”.

“The Utopia Travelogues” is the second volume of The Compendium Of Imaginary Wavelengths, a secret archive of arcane and dangerous documents written and concealed in a vault in North Africa by a shadowy and mysterious scientist/author, and uncovered recently. The Travelogues are a selection by James Sey and James Webb of some episodes in a remarkable journey the author undertook in locations no-one would want to visit unless their motives were questionable. These episodes are presented in the form of a textual narrative drawn from the author’s sinister travel diaries, and various soundscapes discovered with them.

“The Utopia Travelogues” has been conceived in collaboration with James Sey, who has researched, lectured and published extensively on issues around the body, technology and media, especially film and digital media. The text, written by Sey, is interpreted by Neil McCarthy, a South African television personality, writer, producer and director.
