In this program we present a selection of concerts and performances for this year’s Art’s Birthday, broadcast live on Tuesday, 17th January, when Kunstradio and many partner institutions celebrated the Birth of Art 1.000,054 years ago. The EBU’s Ars Acustica group celebrates this occasion as a EURORADIO party on air, online and on the satellite channels Haydn and Liszt.

„The network is everlasting“, said Robert Filliou, and Kunstradio’s contribution to Art’s Birthday 2017 is an attempt to play with the pros and cons of this artists’ network, both technically and conceptually. HYPERLINK "http://kunstradio.at/BIOS/breuerbio.html" Bernhard Breuer, one of Austria’s best drummers, amongst others for the acclaimed group Elektro Guzzi, has developed the concept for the performance “virtually impossible”: In a concentrated concert situation in Studio 3 at the ORF Funkhaus in Vienna, he will play in front of the audience, while being connected with HYPERLINK "http://kunstradio.at/BIOS/klammerbio.html" Josef Klammer in HYPERLINK "http://esc.mur.at/" esc medien kunst labor Graz and HYPERLINK "http://kunstradio.at/BIOS/fajtbio.html" Pavel Fajt in Brno via ISDN and Webstream. Breuer will – as other artists have tried more or less successfully in previous Kunstradio projects – try to realize the impossible: to bridge the distance and actually play together, to ignite some kind of non-verbal communication despite of the physical absence. There will be delays and deferrals, obviously, and the only common denominator will be the pre-concerted pace. And this is where the impossible might become real, where the unexpected might happen. The result will be a ca. 20 min. performance, played by different percussionists on different spots, held together by rhythm and delay. A special radio mix will be done by Mario Stadler in which one can hear all three performers together, this mix will be the Kunstradio contribution to the Art’s Birthday EBU EURORADIO parties.

2) „Talk to me“
by Stefan Prins (RTS-Espace2)

The performance consists of precomposed tracks and live improvisations. Sometimes they ’talk’ to each other, sometimes they inhabit radically different spaces, making communication impossible. ”In his compositional work Prins seeks to critique received convention, to break the framework of the usual, and dispose of aesthetic axioms. He envisions a musical art form beyond the safe confines of the »scene«, wherein the connection to the larger cultural discourse has gotten lost. A central pre- condition for the making of a new mu- sic with a future is the role of the aware, critical observer, one who is prepared to ex- ploit the technologies and mechanisms of the prefabricated media with a view to their possibilities for new music. – Stefan Prins lives up to this calling.” (Michael Rebhahn, 2012)

3) „Ogelen in F“

Robert Filliou observed birds.
He imitated their singing.
OGELEN in F is listening to Robert Filliou.
The 17th of January 2017, Ward Weis builds a forest with loudspeakers at the Museum for Contemporary Art of Antwerp (MUHKA) to celebrate the 1,000.054th Anniversary of Art.
Saxophonist André Goudbeek improvises within this setting surrounded by sounds of imagined sounds birds.

OGELEN in F thanks: EBU Ars Acustica, Ellen Cottyn, Kim De Bruycker, Liliane Dewachter, Klaas Janssens, MUHKA, Ronny Pringels, Jos Van Den Bergh.
