The Prix Palma Ars Acustica is an international competition organized by the Euroradio Ars Acustica Group to promote and honour outstanding productions of authors in the world of Ars Acustica: radio art, sound art, media art, text sound compositions, electroacoustic music, electronics, live electronica, etc.
For the Prix Palma Ars Acustica 2017 there have been 26 entries by the members of the EBU Ars Acustica group, 5 pieces have been nominated as finalists among them „Qualia“ by Charo Calvo and „Onironautica“ by Susanna Caprara (La Cosa Preziosa). The jury meeting has taking place in the framework of the EBU Ars Acustica Plenary meeting, which has been held in May 2017 in Vienna, hosted by Ö1 Kunstradio.  „Qualia“ by Charo Calvo Dauer: 44.21 min  PLAYFive women artists living in Brussels; all raised in several languages; each one from a different cultural background. They tell, in their mother tongue, a vital moment, an intense sensorial experience, that left a physical imprint. One of them is not telling the truth though. How to transmit this experience only through language when their words are translated, albeit ‘properly’ by another woman? Qualia questions the body/mind problem, the impossibility of sharing with others the exact perception of a color, of the temperature of a hand or the taste of wine. Qualia questions the use of sound in storytelling, it’s power to reach the subconscious, it’s power to provoke physical reactions and to trigger mental images. Do you see what I mean?
