In late summer 2018, the exhibition Musica Femina - Women Made Music presented, among other things, 100 female composers with pictures and short biographies, who have influenced and continue to influence musical creation from Sappho to the present day.

These short portraits motivated the Austrian poet Sophie Reyer to create poetic vignettes.

Composers of all genres chose two vignettes/poems each and reflected them in their newly created compositions. In the form of instrumental solos and chamber music, with voice, electronic and analogue, sometimes integrating poems by the poet Sophie Reyer, read by herself.

These audio portraits refer to the exhibited short portraits of the exhibition Musica Feminina and are designed from the perspective of the present.

100 Composers - 100 Portraits is an impressive, profound snapshot of the musical work of women from the history of music to the present day.

The radio compositions were created in cooperation with the Austrian Federal Chancellery, the Society for the Promotion of Austrian Music and Ö1 Kunstradio.
