Steve Bates

Steve is a musician, audio artist, independent broadcaster and curator living in Winnipeg, Canada. Steve's work in music usually involves computers and cheap electronics in performance and recording projects (his guitar is often found not too far away, vibrating on an ironing board).

In addition to curating FREQUENCitY, Steve is currently working on "rectangle house," a collaborative installation project with multimedia artist, jake moore. This project investigates the relationship between sound and space using field recordings of their home and neighbourhood and six gorgeous Studer reel-to-reel machines.

Steve is the artistic director of Send + Receive: a Festival of Sound and community outreach coordinator for CKUW 95.9 fm, campus/community radio.
