JULIAN BONEQUI

born in Mexico in 1974, is a hybrid artist specialized in electroacoustic music composition and 3D production. As musician he has performed under the conduction of the London Improvisers Orchestra, the Berlin Improvisers Orchestra, the FOCO Orchestra of Madrid, William Parker, Tarek Atoui, Keith Tippett, Vagina Dentata Organ, and with musicians such as Ute Wassermann, Paal Nilssen-Love, Gebrüder Teichmann, Gudrun Gut and Joachim Irmler. In 2015 his music was launched into space as part of the Australian project “Forever Now” curated by Aphids alongside artists as Pierre Henry and Mats Gustafsson.

As curator and founder of Audition Records [Berlin 2010-Mexico 2013] - a transnational documentary platform and hybrid studio based currently in Mexico City -, he has produced series of concerts as “Female Soloists in Berlin” in collaboration with Salon Bruit eV; “and worked as guest curator with Akouphène Festival in Geneva; and in Mexico with the Ex Teresa Arte Actual Museum and with CCDRadio at the Center of Digital Culture. Participant in the Norient Exhibition 2015-2016, “Seismographic Sounds / Visions of a New World“ at Transmediale and Zentrum für Kunst und Medien Karlsruhe, Bonequi has published with Audition Records an important experimental collection of 103 releases, including collaborations with more than five hundreds international artists and curators with music works from 1960 to 2015.

Bonequi has taught new media art in Mexico City and masters-level animation courses at the Pompeu Fabra University and the Polytechnic University of Valencia. At the latter he collaborated in research groups about interactive technologies and neuroscience for educational exhibitions and games. Bonequi is currently working on his first 3D opera with the support of the Program for Production and Research in Art and Media at the National Centre for the Arts in Mexico City. At the same time he continues to coordinate the artist-in-residence project organized by his own Audition Records label.

Awarded by CTM Radiolab prize with his 3D/radio/sci-fi/drama "The Death of the Anthropocene" in 2017.
