Argentine/Czech composer Alan Courtis was born in 1972 in
Buenos Aires, where he currently lives. His grandfather was Czech and
settled in Argentina in 1927, allowing his family to have dual
citizenship. Courtis studied classical guitar, piano theory and
composition. His scores have been played by ensembles from Switzerland,
England, USA and Argentina.
During the early 90's he was founder member of the band Reynols. Later
on he started solo works and collaborations with multiple projects,
which are released in more than 200 records from worldwide labels like:
P.S.F., Pogus, Porter, MIE, 8mm, Sedimental, Feeding Tube, Blackest
Rainbow, Tonschacht, Prele, Quasipop, Antifrost, Riot Season,
Blossoming Noise, No-Fi, RRR, Kning Disk, Ikuisuus, Beta-Lactam, Public
Eyesore, Herbal, Purifiva, 267Lattajjaa, Smittekilde, Slottet,
Alt.Vinyl, Monotype, Xerxes,Mikroton, etc.
He has toured extensively in Japan, Europe, USA, Australia, New Zealand
& Latin America and has collaborated with musicians like: Pauline
Oliveros, Phill Niblock, Jim O'Rourke, Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Otomo
Yoshihide, Eddie Prevost (AMM), Okkyung Lee, RLW, L.A.F.M.S., C.Spencer
Yeh, Makoto Kawabata, Daniel Menche, Rick Bishop, Yoshimi (Boredoms),
Toshimaru Nakamura, Thomas Dimuzio, Seiichi Yamamoto, Tetuzi Akiyama,
Lasse Marhaug, Rapoon (Zoviet France), Uton, Birchville Cat Motel,
Kaffe Mathews, Jaap Blonk, Jazkamer, Gert-Jan Prins, Avarus, L'autopsie
a révélé que la mort était due à
l'autopsie, Kemialliset Ystavat, etc.
His music has been broadcast by radios like: BBC (UK), WFMU (USA), SBS
(Australia), Resonance-FM (UK), CJSF (Canada), WDR (Germany), Sveriges
Radio (Sweden), Radio France, NRK (Norway), RTVE (Spain), WNUR (USA),
Radio Nacional (Argentina), etc. Courtis has composed music for films
by directors like Claudio Caldini, Sergio Subero, and Guillermo Ueno
& Pablo Mazzolo.
He teaches music in Buenos at Conservatory "Astor Piazzolla", Talleres
Fontanarrosa, Fundacion Artistas Discapacitados, Centro de
Investigaciones Artisticas and has been also coordinating music
workshops in: Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Belgium, France, Denmark,
Germany, England, Mexico, Peru, Chile, United States, Australia, New
Zealand & Japan.
