Melanie Herbert is a Sydney-based composer and installation artist. She has presented works as part of Sydney's NOW now series, What Is Music? Festival 2011, and Volta's '1.5: Switch' production. In 2011 Melanie created 'let them in', a multi-speaker installation exploring the nature of co-existing sound worlds. She is also a performer in Sydney’s large-scale electro-acoustic improvising ensemble, Splinter Orchestra.

Melanie graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with a B.Mus studies (Honours) in Composition. After performing at stagejuice's 'freshly squeezed' in 2011, she joined The Earthcrosser Company as resident sound artist.

Using field recordings and musical improvisations, Melanie’s compositions fuse intricate networks of space, sound, silence and time to create immersive musical soundscapes with delicate layers and surfaces.
