Stephen Mathewson

Residing in Vienna and Hallein, the American painter and graphic artist Stephen Mathewson concentrates his most recent works in narrative story, stemming from comic sketches then reduced and made more painterly when finally landing on canvas, paper or wood in oil and graphite. His latest effort, „die Geschichte (part one)“ (2005-2007), was documented in catalogue-form. Under the alias John Robinson, Mathewson’s comic work can be seen in compilation comic books produced by EGO Verlag/Hamburg, and for a stretch of two years (2002 – 2004), was featured monthly in the IG Bildende Kunst magazin Bildpunkt. Mathewson’s favorite hobbies include writing and performing music, playing and coaching ice hockey and curating exhibitions of art and film. He is presently employed by Zoom Kindermuseum and Internationale Sommerakademie für Bildende Kunst in Salzburg.
