Sound artist Mario Verandi was born in 1960 into a theatrical family in San Nicolás (Buenos Aires) and studied music at the Music School of the Rosario National University. In Argentina he played piano and keyboards in groups of different styles such as pop, folk, tango and experimental. In 1986 he moved to Barcelona where he studied with Gabriel Brncic and Xavier Serra at the Phonos Studios and started to compose electro-acoustic and instrumental music. From 1991 he lived in London and in 2001 he completed a PhD in music composition at the University of Birmingham under the supervision of Jonty Harrison. In 2000 he moved to Berlin after having received an invitation from the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) to take part in the prestigious artists-in-residence programme.
Mario Verandi has given presentations and lectures about his work in several institutions in Europe and the USA and in 2003-2004 he was guest lecturer at the musicology department of the Free University Berlin.
