Sound Sculpture As

The show SOUND SCULPTURE AS took place at MOCA, The Museum of Conceptual Art in San Francisco, on April 30, 1970. The initiator and curator of the show was Tom Marioni.

The decription of the pieces evoke strong images.

The participating artists, all sculptors, were:

Arlo Acton (steel ball crashing through a pane of glass)
Tom Marioni aka Allan Fish (Piss Piece-- from the top of a ladder into a large tub);
Terry Fox (metal bowl filled with water striking the floor, and later a shovel scraping the floor);
Mel Henderson (firing a gun at a projected image of a tiger);
Paul Kos (amplified sounds of 2 blocks of ice melting, no sound heard);
Jim Melchert (30 unanswered telephone rings from two calls placed from outside the museum);
Peter Macan (sounds of popping from plastic bubble wrap underfoot on the floor at entrance and in elevator);
Jim McCready (the sound of 4 women wearing nylon stockings walking and rubbing their legs together);
Herb Yarmo (ball bearings rolling down a metal pipe onto the floor.

The show was recorded and broadcast on KPFA FM, Berkeley, Cal.
