Invitation to electro-acoustic music institutes / studios, universities of arts and science as well as private sound artists and students to participate to the 1st Nordic Sound Art Festival SOUNDING ISLES 1995





The Nordic House, in Tórshavn on the Faeroe Islands, supported jointly by the Nordic countries will organize in August 1995 the SOUNDING ISLES 1995 festival in cooperation with Finnish Broadcasting Company, YLE' s ProTon - Sonic Art Group and the Documentary Group.

SOUNDING ISLES 1995 IS A SOUND ART FESTIVAL

The YLE Experimental Studio's loudspeaker orchestra will play, on Saturday the 26th of August above the Tórshavn roofs and the harbour, an uninterrupted six-hour concert of international sound works collage depicting the interaction of the sea, nature and human beings. This outdoor main event will take place simultaneously at the Tórshavn Harbour and the Nordic House.
The YLE Channel One Documentary Group and the Experimental Studio are planning a live a two-hour broadcast from the Faeroe Islands to the Nordic countries. This unique broadcast also will be recorded digitally and sent, later for broadcast in four 25-minute parts to the EBU-members in Ars Acustica exchange.

Sound artists may send their works to the SOUNDING ISLES 1995, 1st NORDIC SOUND ART FESTIVAL on DAT-cassette. The works have to deal with the sea, nature and human beings. The cassettes will not be returned, the maximum duration is 45 minutes. Please submit your entry by airmail to: SOUNDING ISLES 1995, Tape Library, P.O.B. 16, FIN-00024, Yleisradio. Those authors who's works will be chosen to the festival concerts will receive their royalties, all articles and documents of the festival and one SOUNDING ISLES 1995 CD free.

THE " FAEROE HORN " COMPETITION FOR NORDIC SOUND ARTISTS

The Nordic House of the Faeroe Islands declares opened the first competition the "Faeroe Horn" and wishes to attract Nordic sound artists' works dealing with the interaction between sea, nature and human beings.The artists are free to choose the artistic format and contents of the works, which also may have been performed or published before and they can consist f.g. of human voices, sounds of nature, instrumental or electronic sounds or a combination of these elements.
The entries, min. 6 minutes and max. 12 minutes, should be recorded on DAT-cassette sample rate 44.1 kHz, one work / cassette, and sent by air mail to reach the organizer by June 1, 1995: SOUNDING ISLES 1995, Director Peter Turtschaninoff, Nordic House,Nordrari Ringvegur, POB 1260, FR-110, Torshavn, FOEROYAR.

The organizers will form a preliminary jury. A final jury consisting of international sound artists will award the prizes. The best works will be published on the first Nordic Ars Acustica CD SOUNDING ISLES 1995. The winner will receive the "FAEROE HORN" sculpture and DKR 4.000. The second and third best works will be awarded special commendations and a sum of DKR. 1.500.

Please also note: No cassettes will be returned. Do neither send any original cassettes nor any material by air freight. The organizers can neither take any responsibility for the material submitted nor insure the material against loss.

MORE OF SOUNDING ISLES 1995

There will also be an international ars acustica workshop and seminar for students and artists with a programme including sound installations, concerts and sound recording excursion in the unique nature of the Faeroe Islands.
