r a d i o q u a l i a is a online art collaboration from New Zealand, based in Europe. r a d i o q u a l i a aims to open an electronic portal into the eccentricities of antipodean radio space. It was founded in 1998 by Adam Hyde and Honor Harger. r a d i o q u a l i a experiments with the concept of broadcasting, using the internet, radio and television, performance, publishing and gallery contexts. r a d i o q u a l i a have produced exhibitions in New Zealand, Australia, the UK, Austria and Croatia, and have undertaken numerous performances and presentations around the world. As a geographically isolated project (both participants are from New Zealand and founded the project while based in South Australia), one of r a d i o q u a l i a's primary motives is to explore the notion of using online broadcasting media to critique geographical distance as an impediment to creative collaboration. r a d i o q u a l i a have developed their own software and hardware tools, including The Frequency Clock, a multi-platform system which enables users of the internet to timetable streaming media content for broadcast on the internet and on FM radio or broadcast television. r a d i o q u a l i a have also produced three CDs, Frequency Shifts, self.e x t r a c t i n g.radio and e Q. Their projects are housed at http://www.radioqualia.net .
