The Carneval of Uruguay is celebrated for more than five weeks ? that?s the longest Carneval worldwide. It begins with the Carneval Parade, followed by the "Desfile de Llamadas", where all ?comparsas? (groups of the black population) participate. These groups usually have 50 to 60 drums and different visual elements. As it is the ?official? part of the festival for the black population, a lot of their people resist to take part in it. Still, it is on of the greatest public festivals in Montevideo. (Recorded in February 2002).
