MICHAEL VORFELD
light/sound performance

Michael Vorfeld's installations and performances are carried out with a great deal of precision, individuality, and originality. The used material, however, is deliberately reduced and simple. The main elements are often slides, simple light bulbs, torches, and mirrors. The combination thereof generates impressive visual sequences of rhythm. The percussionist Vorfeld often introduces self-developed, unorthodox instruments. With his reduced way of playing, Vorfeld creates percussive sound levels, which are less defined through their density than through their three-dimensionality.
The usage and placing of light, combined with the handling of the technical devices, is always manual or mechanical and can hence be followed as a comprehensible part of the performance. The creation of sound is presented as purely acoustic, hand played instrumental music. The performing artist thus changes between technician, light designer, and musician.

Michael Vorfeld lives and works as a photographer, percussionist, and artist in Kassel. As a member of the "Produzentengalerie," he also works as organizer of concerts and exhibitions.
