Im Rahmen der Ö1-Serie "Nebenan: Serbien und Montenegro" ist im Kunstradio ein Stück des serbischen Künstlers Arsenije Jovanovic zu hören. "Farewell Lament for an Old Family Fridge" ist ein Klage- oder Abschiedslied, das dem Kühlschrank der Familie des Künstlers gewidmet ist, der nachdem er nach über dreissig Jahren nutzlos weil funktionsuntüchtig geworden war, ins Meer versenkt wurde. Zugleich steht diese abstrakte akustische "Erzählung" auch für die Obsession des Künstlers für Alltagsgegenstände, für sein Interesse an unserem Verhältnis zu den Dingen und Objekten, die uns umgeben.
Diese Hommage ist eine Komposition aus Geräuschen des Kühlschranks, atmosphärischen Sounds, Versatzstücken aus Verdis "Requiem", leisem Sprechgesang, die den/die HörerIn zum Begleiter des Objekts beim Abtauchen und Sinken auf den Meeresgrund macht.
Dort, so imaginiert Arsenije Jovanovic, könne der über Jahre treue Diener der Familie unterschiedlichen Meerestieren ein Zuhause bieten; diese würden den Kühlschrank - ähnlich einem alten Schiffwrack - zu bewohnen beginnen und ihm so ein neues, zweites Leben einhauchen ...

Within the framework of the Ö1 series "Nebenan: Serbien und Montenegro" which provides broad insight into the cultural, politicial, social and economical situation of various countries neighboring Austria in a variety of programmes, Kunstradio will broadcast a piece by the Serb artist Arsenije Jovanovic. "Farewell Lament for an Old Family Fridge" is dedicated to the fridge of the artist's family which, after it had become useless after more than 30 years of functioning, was dumped into the sea. At the same time, this abstrakt acoustic "story" also stands for the artist's obsession for objects of our everyday life, for his interest in the relationship we have towards the things which surround us.
This hommage is a composition of noises produced by the fridge, atmospheric sounds, parts of Verdi's "Requiem", faint singing, which turns the listener into the object's companion while its sinking to the bottom of the ocean.
There, Arsenije Jovanovic imagines, this long-lasting diligent family servant might offer various ocean animals shelter; they would inhabit the fridge, like old ship wrecks, and thereby lend it a new, second life ...
