Some thirst

von Renata Roman

  • “In search of the water: an arid exercise: an exercise in understanding the movements of waters in subtraction: depth: the cadence of a symbology of search, in a process that is sometimes shallow, sometimes deep: water always flows: to quench one's thirst: to seek waters in such arid times: to listen to them in their absences and excess: of absences: the overflowing and the submerging, as conditions of the same journey: everything flows and nothing remains as it is.” (Renata Roman)
  • The piece is divided into several sections. First there is a sequence that could be described as sound poetry under water, as if sounds are formed under water or with water in the mouth. A then following rising and falling soundscape reminds of a desert - to understand water, one has to cross the desert, a speaker's voice suggests. Water drops begin to trickle into this desert - a rhythm that creates a musical flow. Then Renata Roman takes us to a shore, we hear gentle water waves drumming against boats, people's voices, and finally there is rowing. Arrival in an aquatic elysium. The thirst is quenched.
