Medienkünstler und -theoretiker. Zur Zeit Direktor der School of Art and Design an der Syracuse University, New York. Tom Sherman, der vor allem durch Videoarbeiten hervorgetreten ist, hat unter anderem die Medienkunstabteilung der kanadischen Kunstförderungsabteilung aufgebaut. 1986 war er einer der Kuratoren der Kunst & Technologie Sektion der Biennale in Venedig.
was born in Michigan in 1947. In 1972 he migrated to Canada. Sherman is an artist, writer and theorist His writing has been widely published in North America and Europe. As an artist he represented Canada in Canada Video at the 1980 Venice Biennale. His tapes have been screened in video festivals in North and South America, Europe and Australia. His work is featured in many public collections, including the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Museum of Modern ArtNew York, an d the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid. From 1983 -87 he initiated and designed the Media Arts section of the Canada Council. In 1986 he was an international commisioner for the Art, Technology and Informatics section of the Venice Biennale. Sherman is now Director of the School of Art and Design at Syracuse University in New York State, USA.
