alien productions

alien productions was founded in 1997 by Andrea Sodomka (A), Martin Breindl (A), Norbert MATH (I) and August BLACK (USA) as an artists network for theory and aesthetics of new technology and media. They all - either separately, together or in cooperation with other artists - have worked in the realms of technological art since 1985; Andrea Sodomka and Martin Breindl work together since 1987. The range of their works includes intermedia performances and -installations, electronic music, net.art, radio art, sound art, interactives, video, visual arts and artistic photography.

alien productions stands especially for cooperative projects with other artists, technicians, theorists and scientists. alien productions is not a group of artists in a classic sense, but an open network of creative power, where specialists of different provenance work in an interdisciplinary way. alien productions makes public appearances in changing constellations.

monochrom is an art-technology-philosophy group of basket weaving enthusiasts and theory do-it-yourselvers based in Vienna and Zeta Draconis. monochrom is the super-affirmation of the globalization trap. monochrom has existed in this (and every other) form since 1993.

monochrom is a peculiar mixture of proto-aesthetic fringe work, pop attitude, subcultural science and political activism. monochrom publishes the book of the same name in addition to its activities in other areas.

What are we doing?
monochrom is an open field of experimentation:
international art scene, panel discussions, events, technology, souls bought and sold, game and shame shows, readings of the dreariest sort, theory cocooning, film short processing, website squatters' consultancy, alternative space travel projects, do-it-yourself surveillance courses, riddle rallyes, ecumenical field services, overhead projector comics, circumstantiation, Power Point fairy-tales, layouting and decomposition, propagandistic summer camps, monumental puppet theater, aesthetic pregnancy counseling, producing, promoting and destroying music, party service, expressional dance, Biennial brawls, GDR rock, DJ events and lots more...

"Some random viewers break out in cold sweat."

One of SHIFZ' main aims is to point out the bonds between modern sciences and art in general and to demonstrate the way specific technologies effect artistic production in the 21st century.

Here, electronic media serve as a means for artistic expression and, at the same time, are confronted with the variety of "traditional" forms of expression.

One important issue within our activities is communication and collaborating with local and international artists and artists' groups working in the field of perception resp. who critically/creatively deal with the developments within the information era.
